Brigade Hotel Ventures Signs MoU with Tamil Nadu Government at Global Tourism Summit 2026; Commits ₹1,012 Cr Investment
Strategic Hospitality Investment Announced at Tamil Nadu Tourism Summit
Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026 in the presence of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, marking a significant step toward strengthening the state's hospitality ecosystem. The company has committed an investment of Rs 1,100 crore to enhance tourism and hospitality infrastructure across Tamil Nadu.
The two-day summit was held in Mahabalipuram, and represented part of a broader state initiative to attract private capital into tourism development. The Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026 saw the government sign 127 Memoranda of Understanding worth INR 22,794 crore, investments expected to generate 65,937 jobs across multiple districts.
Hotel Expansion Across Chennai
The company plans to add more than 500 keys across three Chennai properties with land already acquired: a 45-key Courtyard by Marriott at Chennai World Trade Center, a 211-key Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR and a 250-key JW Marriott Chennai OMR. The proposed investment is expected to create employment opportunities for more than 1,000 people.
BHVL's first hotel in Chennai, Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway, operated by its subsidiary SRP Hotel Ventures Ltd, opened in April 2017 with 202 keys. This latest commitment represents a substantial expansion of the company's footprint in the state capital.
Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Tourism
The initiative aligns closely with the summit's objective of attracting private capital into tourism, hospitality, and leisure developments across the state. Vineet Verma, Director, BHVL, said that the MoU is part of the company's commitment to bring the best of hospitality to Chennai and reflects a shared vision with the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The MoU comes at a time when the state government has invested INR 612.18 crore in tourism development over the past five years, welcoming 128.97 crore domestic tourists and 45 lakh foreign visitors during this period. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the creation of a Special Area Development Authority to develop world-class tourism infrastructure in Mahabalipuram at an estimated cost of INR 100 crore.
Brigade's Hospitality Trajectory
Brigade Enterprises Limited is an Indian real estate and property development company based in Bangalore, with operations in Mangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chikmagalur, Ahmedabad and a representative office in Dubai. The company has tied up with hospitality majors like Starwood, Accor and Intercontinental Hotels.
Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited was established as a dedicated hospitality vertical for the larger Brigade Group. The company successfully launched the IPO for Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited, their second entity to enter the public markets. This Tamil Nadu investment underscores the company's broader strategy to expand branded hotel operations across South India in partnership with international chains.
State Tourism Policy Context
Under the Tamil Nadu Tourism Policy 2023, SIPCOT will play a key role in identifying tourism locations, attracting investment, and facilitating project development. As part of this strategy, 31 locations across the State have been identified for tourism-led development. Four districts—Kanniyakumari, Kallakurichi, Erode, and Thoothukudi—have been earmarked as special tourism destinations, with expressions of interest invited for large-scale investments.
