Brigade Hotel Ventures to Invest ₹1,100 Crore in Chennai Hospitality Expansion; Three New Hotels Planned
Strategic Chennai Expansion Signals Confidence in South India Hospitality
Brigade Hotel Ventures Ltd. (BHVL) is set to strengthen its footprint in Chennai with an investment of around ₹1,100 crore as part of its next phase of growth, highlighting the city's strategic importance in the company's South India expansion plans. Chennai will account for approximately ₹1,100 crore of the company's planned ₹3,600-crore investment to expand its hotel portfolio over the next three to four years.
The announcement follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026, reinforcing state-level support for hospitality infrastructure growth. The agreement is intended to bolster the state's tourism infrastructure and to create high-value employment for over 1,000 people.
Three Premium Hotels Across Established Corridors
BHVL plans to add three new hotels in Chennai over the next few years. The expansion will begin with the launch of the Courtyard by Marriott Chennai World Trade Centre, followed by the luxury JW Marriott Chennai OMR and Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR, both slated for completion by 2029-30.
The portfolio spans the city's key business and leisure corridors. A Courtyard by Marriott at Chennai World Trade Center will offer around 45 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and will be located about 13 km from Chennai International Airport. The World Trade Center, Chennai, located at Perungudi, was made operational in March 2020.
A JW Marriott on the OMR will feature around 250 stylishly appointed guest rooms and suites. The Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), 45 km long and formerly known as the Old Mahabalipuram Road, starts from Madhya Kailash Temple Junction on Sardar Patel Road in south-east Chennai and terminates on East Coast Road near Mahabalipuram. TIDEL Park, home to a number of BPO and IT/ITES companies and many other major IT/ITES Companies in the country, are situated along the Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
A Grand Hyatt Chennai on the East Coast Road is set to operate as a premier resort with approximately 211 guest rooms. East Coast Road (ECR), known for its scenic beauty, is an important road corridor in Tamil Nadu connecting Chennai with Cuddalore through Pondicherry. The road was formed in 1998 by interlinking and improving a series of small village roads that were connecting the fishing villages along the coast of Bay of Bengal.
Existing Operations and Market Position
The company currently operates the 202-key Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway. BHVL previously commenced operations of Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway in April 2017 through its subsidiary SRP Hotel Ventures Limited with 202 keys.
BHVL is an owner and developer of hotels primarily across South India and is the second largest owner of chain-affiliated hotels and rooms in the region as of March 31, 2025. The company operates nine hotels with 1,604 keys across Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Mysuru and the GIFT City, with operations managed by global hospitality companies such as Marriott, Accor and InterContinental Hotels Group.
