About the Location
Perambur is one of North Chennai's oldest and most established residential localities, best known as the city's historic railway hub. Located in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu, it derives its name from the Tamil word "Pirambu" (bamboo), reflecting the bamboo forests that once covered the area before it was annexed into Chennai in 1742. Home to the Integral Coach Factory, a manufacturing centre for railway coaches and Vande Bharat trains, three railway stations and the Chennai Rail Museum, it carries a distinctive railway-colony and Anglo-Indian heritage.
